Shawn Mendes just canceled his Wonder tour to put his mental health first. It's a decision he didn't take lightly and he consulted his team and health professional before making the call.
The Canadian singer wrote, “I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family.”
“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away," he wrote.
“It has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger,” he said in a statement on Instagram.
His tour started on June 27 in Portland, Oregon, however on July 8 he had to postpone his North American tour for 3 weeks to take a break. He was not prepared for the toll it would take on him. He ended up cancelling the remainder of his tour in North America and Europe. “We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority,” he wrote.
“This doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future,” he stated. “I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal. I love you and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”
While he may be a celebrity, he is still human and is willing to put his health before his work. Making that choice is no easy choice and it's a trend we're seeing more people make with the Great Resignation with burnout being the root cause.

Research shows that we need to take a break and decompress so we can do our best at work and at home. So it's okay to take a pause to recharge or quit a job that doesn't serve you. Your health is a priority too. Take a break from life every once in a while to let the mind unwind.
